Today, Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement marking Memorial Day:

“On this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to remember the brave men and women who have fought and died in defense of our country. Let us honor their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to preserving the freedoms we so closely cherish.

“We must continue to fight for the rights of all veterans, active duty members of the armed forces, and their families. As our troops come home from conflicts overseas, the need for veterans’ services across the nation will continue to grow. Many veterans have already faced difficulty navigating the Veterans Administration’s (VA) health care, disability, education, and job placement services. We must ensure that these services are accessible to those who need them and that they may access these services in a timely manner. I am committed to serving each and every one of my constituents returning home from deployment, and indeed every American veteran, as they access the services and benefits they rightly deserve.

“This Memorial Day, I proudly join all Americans as we thank and honor those serving today and those who have served this country in the past in an effort to protect our national security and those freedoms we have forever held so dear.”

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
