(Fort Lauderdale, FL) Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement regarding the upcoming hurricane season, which begins today, June 1, 2016:
“While it is impossible to predict exactly when and where hurricanes will take place in the coming months, forecasters agree that the Atlantic hurricane season may be a busy one. These destructive and often unpredictable storms pose significant danger to our communities, and it is critical that all Floridians adequately prepare for them.
“I will continue to work closely with federal, state, and local agencies in the coming months to ensure that the necessary resources are available in the event of a natural disaster. In particular, I will push for much-needed reform as it relates to prioritizing power restoration, debris removal, the availability of local generators, and ensuring temporary housing for those who become displaced.
“It is imperative that all Floridians prepare early, in order to be ready if a hurricane should make landfall.”
