Today, Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D- FL) issued the following statement in recognition of Earth Day:
“Every year as we celebrate Earth Day, events are held across the globe expressing support for protecting our environment. In reality, the issues affecting our world are serious and consequential, and we must do more on a daily basis to address the environmental challenges that we continue to face.
“According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the last decade was the warmest on record, with longer and hotter heat waves and stronger and more frequent storms. We must work together to implement reforms based on scientific data to effectively mitigate our planet’s changing climate.
“As global citizens, we must always remain conscious of our actions and their global impact. We must never stop trying to be more environmentally friendly, and I commend the countless businesses that have already joined the ‘green’ movement. Our resources are precious, and by working together we can preserve them and our environment for generations to come.”
