Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement on Israel’s ground operation in the Gaza Strip:
“Since the start of Operation Protective Edge, more than 1,000 rockets have been launched from Hamas-controlled Gaza into Israel. This escalation of violence is deeply troubling. Israel has every right to defend itself against this constant indiscriminate barrage of rockets.”
“Hamas has shown its true colors, rejecting a cease fire agreement, urging Palestinians who have fled for safety to return to their homes, and using innocent families as human shields as they continue to attack Israel. I am deeply saddened by the loss of innocent civilian life on both sides of this conflict. As Israel rightfully works to secure the safety of its people, my thoughts and prayers are with the families that have suffered as a result of Hamas’ unwarranted aggression.”
