Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement on President Obama’s nomination of Loretta Lynch to serve as the next Attorney General of the United States:
“I applaud President Obama’s decision to nominate Loretta Lynch to serve as the next Attorney General of the United States, who if confirmed, will be the first African American woman to hold the position.  Throughout her varied and impressive career as a federal prosecutor, in private practice, and as the current U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, she has distinguished herself as a proven leader and a champion of fair and equal justice.
“I have no doubt that Loretta Lynch has the experience and commitment required to excel as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer, and join in congratulating her on her nomination.  I am hopeful that the Senate will undergo a swift confirmation process and look forward to working with her.”
Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
