Today, Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement on the tragic shooting that took place in Paris, France:
“It is with deepest sympathy that I offer my thoughts and prayers to the families and friends of the 12 individuals who lost their lives as well as all those who were injured in today’s deadly attack. This was a heinous and cruel act of violence, and an incredibly dark day not only for French journalism, but for all of France.
“Local authorities and rescue personnel are to be commended for their efforts to provide care to the injured and prevent further loss life, particularly the 2 law enforcement officials who gave their lives in an effort to thwart the attack.
“I stand with the people of France in solidarity during this time of great sorrow. Today’s atrocious events highlight the importance of the international community’s continued cooperation in combating terrorism through steadfast dedication to preventing those who wish to intimidate those of us who seek to uphold democracy from carrying out cowardly and horrific acts such as today’s shooting.”
