Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (FL-20) will travel to Israel as the senior member of a bipartisan delegation from May 2 – 8, 2015. Hastings, who serves as the Ranking Democratic Member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (the Helsinki Commission) and Co-Chair of the Democratic Israel Working Group (DIWG), plans to meet with Israeli and Palestinian government officials, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The delegation will also meet with the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro, members of the Israeli Knesset, along with other officials.
“This will be my sixteenth trip to Israel as a Member of Congress. Given current events taking place in the region, I believe that this is an important opportunity to meet with senior Israeli and Palestinian leaders on a wide range of issues concerning political developments in Israel, regional security in the Middle East, the ongoing peace process, as well as the U.S.-Israeli relationship,” said Hastings.
The trip is being organized by the American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF), an independent, non-profit charitable organization.
Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
