Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement regarding the train derailment in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the passengers and crew members who were on board the derailed Amtrak train last night.  Words cannot express how sorry I am for those who lost loved ones and for those injured.

“I want to applaud and thank all of the first responders and passengers who worked so quickly to bring medical attention to those in need.

“I am encouraged by the quick response of both the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), as they begin their investigation of what led to this derailment.

“It is my sincere hope that the families and friends of those lost, and those facing a challenging road to recovery, know that we mourn with them at this most difficult time.”

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Democratic Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
