Today, Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement after receiving an A from the National Education Association for the 114th Congress:

“I am truly honored to receive this recognition from the National Education Association (NEA).  Our nation is rooted in the belief that all Americans deserve an equal opportunity to achieve the American dream. In today's world, a quality education is crucial to the realization of that dream. We are blessed to live in a country that promises every child access to a free, public education, and we should be proud that American universities are regarded as the finest in the world,” said Hastings.

“I remain dedicated in my commitment to support legislative initiatives that make education a top priority in order to increase American competitiveness within the international community by meeting our responsibility to invest in our nation's children and ensuring that every student has equal access to a quality education.”

The NEA generates a scorecard to measure Congress’s overall Legislative support (behind-the-scenes advocacy for education and educators, bill co-sponsorships, committee votes and Congressional members’ accessibility to education advocates in their home state or district) for public education and educators.  To view the scorecard in its entirety, please visit http://www.nea.org/home/57694.htm.

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
