Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement in response to FBI Director James Comey’s letter to eight Republican Congressional Committee Chairmen:
“The review of Secretary Clinton’s personal email server that concluded months ago yielded no charges. FBI Director James Comey himself said that no reasonable prosecutor would move forward with a case like this one. I don’t expect we will learn anything new that will change this assessment.
“I am very concerned and surprised at the manner in which Director Comey has inserted the FBI into this election. With just 11 days until Election Day, it is extraordinary to announce this decision without providing any additional information. Republicans have spent months second-guessing the FBI with baseless partisan accusations, and have already seized upon this announcement with blatant mischaracterizations. While the FBI has not even indicated that this review involves Secretary Clinton’s own use of emails, Republicans have, once again, already drawn their own conclusions. Director Comey should provide the full details of this new investigation to the American people. This action demands full and complete transparency. Anything else at this time would be reckless.”
