Today, Representatives Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) and Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Co-Chairmen of the Congressional Everglades Caucus, celebrating the 18th Annual Everglades Day to promote awareness, appreciation and understanding of this fragile ecosystem, made the following statement:
“Everglades Day highlights the importance of preserving and protecting the River of Grass for all future generations of Americans to enjoy,” said Congressman Hastings. “The ecological importance of this unique ecosystem reverberates far beyond the Sunshine State. While much has been accomplished to restore the Everglades, there is still much work left to be done. Restoring the Everglades is neither a Democratic nor a Republican issue, but a Florida issue. Today we celebrate all the Everglades has to offer, and as Co-chairman of the Congressional Everglades Caucus, I remain committed to restoring and revitalizing this unique ecological treasure.”
“I thank the organizers and hosts for bringing awareness to the Everglades, a beautiful part of Florida’s ecosystem. I am proud to join my Everglades Caucus Co-Chair, Congressman Hastings, in working to preserve and protect this beautiful natural treasure. I will fight for the necessary federal funding to continue the important work of restoring the Everglades,” said Congressman Diaz-Balart.
Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
