Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement on the passing of Janet Burnett:
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Janet Burnett. Janet was a great leader in Florida Democratic politics. She not only led the Broward Democratic Black Caucus, but was also a fixture at meetings and rallies, and amongst other activities throughout Broward County. Janet was someone that you could always count on to stand up for fundamental democratic principles and what was right for the community. She spoke her mind and was a real force to be reckoned with.
“Janet was a shining example to all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of impeccable service and invaluable leadership. She will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to Janet’s family, her children Michelle, Marlon, and Kimani, and her grandchildren Kimani, Jr., and Michael during this time of great sadness.”
Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Democratic Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
