Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement after earning a 100 percent scorecard from the Human Rights Campaign in the 115th Congress:
“I am truly honored to receive this recognition from the Human Rights Campaign, our country’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for the LGBTQ community.
“Throughout my entire career, I have always proudly advocated for equal rights for all Americans, and will continue to fight for our LGBTQ friends. Under the Trump administration, LGBTQ equality remains under attack. While we still face many challenges, I will always be an advocate for equality and justice.
“I am proud to stand on the right side of history in my support of LGBTQ equality. We must continue to support all efforts to end bigotry and prejudice towards gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered Americans to ensure a brighter future for all of our fellow citizens.”
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. In addition to votes on LGBTQ-specific legislation, the HRC Scorecard also includes a number of votes that profoundly impact LGBTQ people and their families.
