Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement on the deadly mass shootings that took place in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio:
“In less than 24 hours, our nation witnessed two mass shootings, where 29 lives were lost. My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and the entire El Paso and Dayton communities. As I have said before, we needlessly endure heartbreak after heartbreak as our public places become targets of violence. This is unacceptable! The Republican-led Senate has done nothing to stop the epidemic of gun violence raging across our country. It is truly sad and pathetic that again and again, there have been calls to reform our lax gun control laws, and yet, such efforts have been blocked by those who have decided that the needs of the gun lobby are far more important than innocent lives. This madness needs to stop and action is needed now!”
Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Vice-Chairman of the House Rules Committee, Chairman of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
