Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement in recognition of Veterans Day:
“As we mark this Veterans Day, let us pause to reflect on the service, sacrifice and dedication that our veterans exemplify in their immense contributions to our nation.
“Today and everyday, it is important to not only salute our veterans, but also honor the promises we made to them when they entered service. Our veterans deserve timely access to the highest quality of healthcare possible. One of several amendments I offered to the annual National Defense Authorization Act
that was adopted by the House of Representatives earlier this year creates a new veterans transition outreach program. This program will improve communication between separating servicemembers and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to ensure that our veterans are connected with the services they have earned and rightfully deserve.
“The State of Florida is home to approximately 1.5 million veterans, one in ten of whom are women. I proudly represent more than 25,000 veterans in Florida’s 20th Congressional District. I will continue to be a vocal advocate for the needs of the veteran community. To the veterans in my district and across our nation, thank you for your service.”
Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee, Chairman of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Dean and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
