Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement on President Trump’s Fiscal Year 2021 Budget request:

“Once again, the President’s budget request for the coming year is nothing more than a broken promise to the American people. Instead of honoring the bipartisan budget agreement, the President has decided to pursue misguided policies that would aggravate the deficit, handout tax cuts to the wealthy, and leave working families with the bill.

“By slashing vital programs that people depend on for their health and economic security, such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, public education, nutrition assistance, and environmental protection programs, in favor of funding for campaign promises such as a wasteful border wall, the President is once again charting an unsustainable path for our country. This budget represents a failure to govern responsibly. It is shameful to repeatedly put the needs of the wealthy and a partisan political wish list above the needs of hardworking and working poor American families.

“In the coming months, I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass the 12 annual appropriations bills to keep the government funded and protect full funding for the programs that matter the most in Florida, and across our nation.”

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Vice-Chairman of the House Rules Committee, Chairman of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
